How To Look Ravishing While Baking

We all know the story we've seen it in movies a dozen times. When you surprise a girl baking you come upon a beautiful mess. Her hair is messed up perfectly, cute smears of flour and chocolate grace her face and apron, every dish has been used but the sparkling counter top can still be seen, her makeup is perfect and she's wearing something adorable and clean under her curve hugging apron. In fact she makes you think that a little baking is all you need to look ravishing.

My reality: When you surprise me baking the only cute flour marks I'll have is the hand print on my bottom from when I had to grab the phone real quick (hey I forgot the front was an apron!), the smears on my face make you sure I forgot to wash up that morning and was probably tasting batter straight from the mixing spoon (GASP, lets just pray I didn't eat a raw egg!) my hair is a mess alright but the kind of mess that makes you sure its been dipped in whatever I'm baking enough times to leave a slight shampoo taste to the batter.
That cute curve hugging apron? Ha! It's sagging on top because the neck is way too big and the waist is tied as tight and high as I can get it so the darn neck loop stops putting pressure on the back of my neck. The sink is piled high and I was forced to use just one bowl for the entire baking experience and chances are I'm mid panic attack as I try and clean up a carton of eggs that a little helping someone dropped on the floor. Oh and the little bit of makeup I somehow found time to apply this morning is.. well lets just say I had to mince some onions for the dinner I prepped before this...

Okay, so maybe the title was a bit misconceiving but at least you learned not to start baking the hour before your someone special is coming home. YES, EVEN IF IT SAYS 30 MIN PREP/COOK TIME! In fact I suggest baking first thing in the morning, that gives you time to get cleaned up and gives the kids time to play in your mess making it obvious who was the culprit.

keep the cute apron for when your not actually baking...

Old Friends, Good Memories

So like many of you out there, I broke my Yom Kippur fast on caffeine.
I enjoyed the cool feeling of the coca-cola, but late at night while my body ached to sleep I was regretting its caffeinated affect.
As I lie in bed, memories from my past started floating through my wandering mind and I thought of all my friends I had lost touch with and I felt the need to write about it.

When I was younger I had many friends who I thought I'd never lose touch with, we'd always be talking, emailing, hanging out etc. But somehow those long emails came to an end. Living far from most of my friends I used to email quite a lot of people often, we used to keep in touch emailing at least weekly and fitting in a phone call here and there (I'm a run from the phone type of person, inherited from my mother who ironically I'm usually on the phone with). When I got married it became harder to email as often, I was working, keeping house, getting used to having a husband, excuses, excuses. Facebook had become popular so who really needed to email when I could just check their status and photos, comment, and know whats going on?

We lost the personal touch of an email, but it sufficed. But there were the friends who never did get a facebook account but the emails still slowed down to a Mazal Tov or a forward. Now I meet an old friend who I have many good memories with and we share a awkward "Hey!! How are you?" and quick update on life and then we both move on. But when I walk away there's a small sad feeling, this was a girl who I'd emailed at least once a week, I knew the daily going-ons of her days, our meet-ups used to be a joyous hugging reunion. I miss those few friends who I no longer know their latest email address and where their working.

This makes me want to open up my email account, go through old address and email some people :)
I'm glad to have so many wonderful friends,

Vacation!

Oh how I love the sound of that word! Our vactions for the last 2 almost 3 years have been visiting our family and friends ( which is awesome! I'm not complaining!!). This time were taking a family trip ;) just Daddy, Mommy and the babies (one day my son is going to tell me to stop categorizing him in the baby section with Essie).

Our original plan had been Chicago. Its a 4 1/2 hr drive and we could go see the Jelly Belly factory on the way, this was the main reason I wanted to go there. But then I found out that the J.B. factory isn't really a factory. Its more of the distribution center and they give a little tour with videos from the actual factory. Interesting for me? sure, interesting for my kids? Not really. I started searching up more to do in Chicago and was really coming up blank. It seemed like a long trip that was going to cost more but not be worth more then a trip to maybe... Minneapolis / St. Pual would be?

So with a new vacation site in mind, I searched the web and immediately came up with some fun ideas. Mall of America of course is always a hit spot (and it takes hours). We booked a room on Hotwire.com. I have a love/hate relationship with that website, once we got a hotel that we had never wanted to return to but this time we got lucky and from the website it looks like a great place :) (I'll let you all know next week if my opinion stays...)So next week Tuesday were off for our little vacation.

4th of July weekend, enjoy the fireworks!

Pacifiers, Underwear and Big Boy Bikes

May I just say the best part of potty training is the lack of stinky dirty diapers :) I don't miss those! Thats right Moses is pretty much potty trained, Sunday we bought him underwear and Monday we even ventured out in them. We went to visit his friend Benny and he wore his big boy underwear. We were nervous about the strange toilet but Benny had a potty seat just like Moses except his is an Elmo potty seat!! How much cooler can it get????!

The one thing that does come with potty training and isn't so cool is the toilet paper obsession. He loves to pull and pull and pull as the toilet paper unwinds and unwinds and unwinds ;) yea you get the picture; And don't kid yourself for a second it ALL gets to go in the toilet and in one big pile. Going to have to keep an eye on that.

Moses is now riding his big boy bike (a 2 wheeler with training wheels). Mommy is soo proud of him. He went for a ride around the block today with his Aunt and Daddy. Right now he's busy making pizza with his Nana (a moment for me to type).

Our big boy's secret (well not so much a secret) is he loves his pacifier and doesn't seem interested in totaly giving it up yet for bedtime. Essie on the other hand has never liked a pacifier. She thinks their all too big for her mouth and get in the way of other much tastier things. Buuut if her brother is sleeping and she is perfectly positioned so she could totaly just slide around a bit, lean forward and grab that pacifier from her sleeping big brother's mouth..... You get the picture, the pacifier is totaly a hit object when its her winning over her brother.

Loving the Mommy life and hoping for that sorta planned vacation next week,

Iowa............breath in the fresh air!

We have arrived and are somewhat settled! Its amazing to walk outside and smell fresh grass, trees, flowers etc. The streets are clean and the sidewalk is barefoot worthy! Shoes, socks (shirts & pants sometimes in my son's case!) are long forgotten, packed somewhere in a drawer nice and clean.

Yesterday we went for a walk and decided to check out the Public Library.
It opens at 2pm so we had to wait a few minutes, it was fun to discover that there was actually a group of people waiting outside this small town library! Wifi and computers are attracting :)

Since we've arrived here I've seen so many spiders and it made me realize how little I've seen spiders in the year we lived in New York City. No I'm not complaining, I'll take the spiders!

So excuse me now as I sign off and run outside before it rains.

A Warm Fall Day

We went to the Bialestock/ Abramowitz wedding last night and got to bed late.
Was hoping to sleep in today but Moses had other plans ;)
After hearing that the weather was nice and all that was needed was a light jacket,
we headed out for Lefferts Park. Just Moses and Mommy!
We live a block away from the park but one block when Moses is walking can take
a while, he checked out all the cool trucks, leaves, birds, etc. on the way there.
On Shabbos I taught him how to say 'bird' !! So he had fun chasing the birds while calling after them. *soo proud*
He was soo excited when a group of girls from Bnos Menachem came running in to the park, he joined them in the run until he fell down :( but no booboos for this big boy!
An ambulance came driving by with its siren and lights flashing so Moses raised his hand high up and waved hello.

Moses has been using his words more lately, instead of just crying he'll say 'no' in english or yiddish and he loves the word 'more' and he learned the word 'help' soooo yum!
